Orlando Weather and Climate

Orlando is considered a subtropical climate with two major seasons. The warm, humid and rainy season runs from about the break of June through late September. The dry, cooler season is generally from October through May.

Climate During June Through September.

This period is generally referred to as the summer season which is the hot, humid and rainy season. Although the average high temperatures during the summer period are in the low 90s, the humidity levels can push the heat index higher. Summer temperatures will rarely reach a 100 degrees. The average low temperatures are in the low 70s. If you plan on spending time at the area water parks, the summer months are the most ideal for water recreation and jaunts to the coastal beach areas.

The summer months also the rainy season when afternoon thunderstorms can occur frequently. Heavy rainfall can sometimes bring several inches of rain within an hour. Hurricane season also occurs during the summer. Since Orlando is inland from the coast, it often escapes the brunt force of any hurricane's landfall.

Climate During October Through May.

This period is generally referred to as the winter season which is cooler and less humid. The winter weather in Orlando is beautiful and is why Florida is called the "Sunshine State". The days are dry and sunny with average high temperatures in the 70s and average lows ranging from the 50s to low 60s. This is the ideal time for those folks in the colder areas of the country to escape the freezing cold and head to beautiful Orlando and its fabulous weather.

The winter months are the most rewarding period for enjoying the theme park venues. Spring school breaks are the perfect times for family escape to Orlando although the crowds can be heavy.
